Who We Are
Kyenjojo Association of Women Development Actors (KAWODA) is a local, women-led non-profit organisation based in Kyenjojo District, Western Uganda. Formerly known as the Association of Women Development Actors (AWODA), KAWODA was registered with Kyenjojo District Local Government on 17 May 2016 (Registration No. KCD 7267) and later incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in April 2021 (Registration No. 80020003025726).
KAWODA is headquartered at Mukunyu Trading Centre, Butiti Town Council, Kyenjojo District, and works with women, smallholder farmers, vulnerable households, and communities to promote sustainable livelihoods, empowerment, and inclusive development.
Our Story
Since its inception, KAWODA has worked to improve the lives and livelihoods of women and vulnerable households by promoting agricultural diversification, agroecology, value addition, and sustainable markets. We believe that the fight against extreme poverty must begin with the poorest and most vulnerable households. Through a household-centred graduation approach, KAWODA supports families to build confidence, strengthen their capabilities, develop sustainable livelihoods, and achieve lasting positive behavioural change.
Our approach contributes to improved nutrition, food security, household incomes, asset accumulation, and resilience.KAWODA currently implements interventions across communities in Kyenjojo and surrounding areas of Western Uganda, working with local communities and partners to address social, economic, health, and environmental challenges.
Our Approach
KAWODA combines women's empowerment, agroecology, entrepreneurship, community development, and rights-based approaches to create sustainable solutions. As a social enterprise and agribusiness actor, we promote smallholder productivity, enterprise development, value addition, and farmer-led value chains. We purchase maize grain from local farmers and farmer-group aggregators and process it into UNBS-certified TOP FINE maize flour for human consumption (Permit No. 09374-0031-0385), as well as maize bran for livestock feed.Through this agroprocessing initiative, KAWODA creates markets for smallholder farmers, contributes to women's economic empowerment, and supports access to nutritious and wholesome food within local communities.
